The Spectacle Makers donate £1500 to 358 Welling Squadron

Welling Air Cadets were celebrating last night when they were told that the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (SMC) were sponsoring fifteen of them to undertake the Edexcel Level 1 BTEC in Teamwork & Personal Skills for Cadets. This qualification is undertaken in the early stages of a cadets training and recognises leadership training undertake by the Air Cadets.

The course is organised by the Cadet Vocational Qualification Organisation (CVQO), and Lieutenant Colonel [Lt. Col.] Clinton Riley of CVQO stated “This is fantastic news... and demonstrates the real learning and real qualifications CVQO provides”.

The Worshipful Company of Spectacles made the £1500 donation as part of their ongoing commitment to the “Cadet Link” initiative that sees the ancient and modern livery companies of the City of London having an active and demonstrable role in the development of young people and the cadet organisations in particular. It is anticipated that the recipients of this BTEC will have their certificates presented at the Apothecaries Hall, the London home of the SMC by a senior member of the Court of the Company.

Flight Lieutenant [Flt. Lt.] Kris Cottier, unit commander of Welling Air Cadets stated “This BTEC highlights the high standard and exemplary skills of the young people in the Air Cadets. The award is something that other school children will not have and it will differentiate them when applying for further education or employment”.
